5 Bad Habits to Kick: Self Love Edition

As a “bigger girl” I have always had self-love issues. I would constantly make fun of the way I looked so that others couldn’t do it first. My excuse for everything was “because I’m fat”. I would always wear black and I never really believed in myself. All of that stops now. I have been going through a lot of changes recently and have decided that it’s time to love myself first. I need to kick those old self-hate habits. This is going to be tough at first, I know, but it has to be done. If you are someone that needs a little wake-up call, then this post is for you. I hope that you can relate to some of the things that I am going through, and change them with me.

  1. I am going to stop feeling bad for being my size. How can I expect anyone to love me if I don’t love myself for how I look?
  2. I am ditching the clothes that make me look “skinny”. Today is the day that I am going to strut my stuff in whatever I feel like. I have recently purchased a few crop tops that I never thought that I could ever wear as a “fat girl”. Guess what? I don’t give a fuck anymore. I look gorgeous no matter what.
  3. I am going to stop telling myself that I can’t do something because of my size. I can do anything that I put my mind to. I just have to want it.
  4. I am going to stop making fat jokes about myself. I am hurting myself more than anyone. It’s not healthy, especially when I start to believe that the jokes are true.
  5. I am going to stop caring about what others think of me. I am going to start living and enjoying my time on this Earth. There are a million other things that I can be doing with my time, and I need to stop wasting them on being self-conscious about myself.
Loving myself is the first step to happiness.

5 Best Blogger Investments

I have been blogging for a little over three years now and I have put a little money in behind the scenes. If you are a new blogger, I wouldn’t recommend going out and dropping a lot of money, especially since you don’t know if blogging is something that you are going to continue doing. If you are serious about blogging, then these are a few things that I have found to make blogging easier. Enjoy!
  1. Ring Light- a ring light is perfect for the cute flat lays that you see all over Instagram.
  2. Theme- If you want your blog to have personality, purchase a theme that fits your aesthetic.
  3. Smart Phone- If you don’t already have a phone with a good camera, you need on in your life. 99.99% of the time, I am taking photos, writing blog posts, and taking notes on my iPhone 8 plus. Just saying, these devices are worth it in the blogging world.
  4. Custom Domain- This makes you look professional and makes it easier for your audience to find you!
  5. Grammarly- Although there is a free version, the premium version helps improve your vocabulary.

How to Practice Self-Care

Self-care is something that I have always struggled with. I have always been one to work constantly, keep moving, and get everything done. I would make myself sick because I would not take a break. As I got older, I realized that if I keep going without taking a break, I’m going to work myself to death. On this new journey of mine, I have practiced self-care and love it! If you keep reading, you will discover my self- care habits.

1. Take the day off

If I know that I have been going non-stop and don’t want to get up for the day, that means that it’s time to take a day off.

2. Turn on my favorite music

I don’t know about you, but music always helps me to escape this crazy reality. 90’s country is the way to go for me.

3. Take a hot shower

A nice, hot shower can calm any day for me. I can stand there for hours just relaxing and thinking.

Put on a face mask

I don’t know what it is about face mask, but they scream relaxation. Sheet masks are my favorite for self-care days.

Turn my phone off

No phone, no distractions.

Go get a pedicure

I love to let someone take care of me for a change.

Go Shopping

A little retail therapy never hurt anyone! Torrid and Forever 21, I am coming for you!

Go see a movie

This helps me escape from the real world and forget about everything that is stressing me out.

Exercise

Exercising can also be another way to clear my brain.

Go to the beach

Some days I like to just get up and drive to the beach. I am at the edge of the world and the stress stays in Bakersfield.

You may not know this about me, but I am a nosy person. I love watching house tours, closet tours, and makeup storage videos. I love taking a look at someone else’s life to see how differently they do certain things. I might find something that I need in my life. This post is for that nosy person out there that is just like me. Wanting to know what someone else carries in their bag for Springtime!

 

  • Planner- If you don’t already know this about me, I am a planner junkie. I have a big one that I carry with my computer and this little one for appointments
  • A wallet is an obvious must. This cute little guy if from Target
  • Sunnies are perfect for the sunny days
  • Hand cream for the dry days
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Every day is a new day and in that case, I need a new lippy, that’s why I have options
  • Eye drops so that my allergies don’t kick my ass
  • Setting spray for when I need a cooldown or some fresh makeup
  • Hair tie, need I say more?
  • Sample perfume, Sweat=stink
  • Pens, I never know when I might need all four

 

Motivational Monday: Don’t Quit Your Daydream!

I cannot tell you how long that I have been dreaming about the day that I would quit my full-time job, just to focus on my passion! For the longest time, I didn’t even know that I had a passion. It took a ton of dumb Facebook career quizzes and countless talks with my family members, to finally realize that I was not destined to have a typical career. I was born to be a hustler, others would call it an entrepreneur.

Back in 2012, I decided to take my last Facebook career quiz. The result led me to where I am today and where I am going to be in the future. In 2016 I signed up for an event and wedding planning course and I couldn’t be happier with my decision. I studied hard and in just six short months, I received my event and wedding planning certificate.

During that time I also discovered another love of mine, blogging. I bought a ring light, a few backdrops, and put in work! I created makeup looks, talked about my beauty favorites, and wrote “What’s in my bag” posts. Since then I have transformed into more fashion, lifestyle, and wedding posts. Hens, certified wedding planner. Eventually blogging led me to Instagram, and who knows where I am headed next.

What I am trying to get at here is that not everyone was born to do the same job. If everyone became a teacher, there would be no doctors. If everyone went for the same career path, life would be boring as hell. It’s okay to step out of the box. I understand that not everyone is going to agree with what I do and I am perfectly okay with that. As long I believe in myself, that is all that I need, (aside from my husband’s support).

As of April 13, 2018, I am no longer working at my Monday through Friday job. I am now a full-time entrepreneur.  That means that I am my own boss, working hard, and proving to myself that I was born to do this. If you ask anyone that knows me, they will tell you that I am not your average 25-year old. I am creative, crafty, and love doing something different every day.

This is just my friendly reminder to live for yourself. Life is too short to live your life wondering “what if?”. Do something that you love and don’t worry about what others are going to say or think. You might just surprise yourself. Hold on to that daydream until you get there, I know that I did.

Soon enough, you are going to see me on the Today Show, telling the world about this exact moment. The moment that I decided to quit my day job to chase my dream job. 

Motivational Monday: Monthly Goal Wrap-up

The first month of the year is gone, just like that. I don’t know about you, but that didn’t feel like a whole month!

In the beginning of January, I set a few goals for myself and hoped to achieve them all. Well, I am happy to say that I did! If you are curious to know what they were, I am about to share them with you.

 

My first goal was to start Wedding and Event Planning blog posts here at the Bakersfield Beauty Blog. So far I have two Wedding Wednesday’s posted and they did quite well!

My second goal was to hit 1,650 followers on my Instagram page. Once that goal was achieved, I then set a goal for 1,700 followers and we currently stand at 1,709. I still can’t believe it! If you’re not following me, you totally should be! I am going to be doing a giveaway very soon! You know what, I will even do you a favor and leave the link right here for you! I know, I am such a nice person.

Goal number three was to take social media photos for two companies. Goal checked off! I had so much fun doing it too!

This last goal, I have been working on for quite some time now. I can’t even begin to tell you how I feel. This goal was to collaborate with Torrid. Yes, you heard right, Torrid. I still don’t believe it, when I received the email, I was almost in tears. The collaboration isn’t up, but be expecting it!

How to turn a bad day into a good day!

I’m sure that you have had one of those days before when you wake up and everything goes wrong. As soon as you open those big, beautiful eyes, you can already tell that everything is going to shit. You woke up late, you burnt your forehead on your hair straightener, and now you can’t find your keys. I have one of those days about twice a week, trust me, you’re not alone!

Instead of letting that day continue to go horribly, here are some things that you can do to change the way your day is going to go.

The first thing that you can do is take a deep breath. Bring your thoughts to your attention and tell yourself that you are going to have an amazing day. Or cry….. Whatever helps. I’m just kidding, but stop and give yourself a minute to forget about all of those terrible events and think of something that makes you happy.

The next thing that you can do to change your day is to go somewhere that makes you happy. If you are at work, take a break and go get some coffee. If coffee isn’t your thing, go do something that is your thing. Grab a cupcake, go for a walk, take some selfies, whatever you need to do to make yourself feel a little better.

If those aren’t doing the trick, read your favorite quote. Read something that will put a smile on your face. If you don’t have a favorite quote, go to Pinterest, they have tons for you!

If you have tried all of the above and nothing seems to be working, call someone that you love. Just let it all pour out to them. If no one will answer, message me, I’ll pick up!
